OUR PROJECT GUIDELINES
FRINGEBACKER operates a platform for the world's greatest ideas to be showcased to an international audience, and for Backers to support them. Once we authorise you to submit your project, you can upload a multimedia presentation of yourself and your project onto the dedicated personalised page that we will host for you on FRINGEBACKER. You can use your creativity and powers of expression, by way of video, photographs and text, to showcase your great ideas to everyone via the internet. In doing so, you will be able to quickly and efficiently attract financial backing for your project, in order to help bring it to life.
Who owns your project?
Of course, you own your project. All Project Creators keep ownership of their projects. We do not take an ownership or financial interest in your project. Your Backers also do not take any ownership or financial interest in your project. We do not share in the profits or any kind of financial reward or return related to your project. Likewise, your Backers also do not share in the profits or any kind of financial reward or return related to your project. Your Backers support you merely because they share in your vision, and therefore want to see your great ideas come to life. They do not seek any investment or any other kind of return. In other words, nothing that is done on FRINGEBACKER is related to any shareholding or investment, or any other kind of financial interest or return in your project. FRINGEBACKER wants you (whether you are a Project Creator or you are a Backer of a project) to be absolutely clear about this -- there is no investment of any kind whatsoever, there is no equity or debt or derivative of any kind whatsoever, and there is no project-sharing or any other kind of financial return or investment return, whatever you want to call it, whatsoever.
If you exceed your minimum funding goal that you set through FRINGEBACKER, then we collect an administrative fee which is a percentage of the amount that your Backers support you for through FRINGEBACKER. This administrative fee that we collect will compensate us for administrative, management and promotional costs. Currently, this percentage that we charge is 5% of the gross amount of the funds that are raised through FRINGEBACKER -- we may change this amount from time to time, in which case we will make changes to this page. Of course, the payment processor (e.g., bank, PayPal or your credit card company) that a Backer chooses will deduct its fee for providing the online payment service to you. But if your project does not meet the minimum funding goal that you set by the time that your designated backing period ends, then FRINGEBACKER will charge you nothing at all (there may be bank, credit card, payment processing, or other remittance-related charges involved in the case of refunds).
For projects that do not have a required minimum funding goal (e.g. charities, fundraising on behalf of charities, etc.), the administrative fee of 5% will apply to each backing amount.
What are FRINGEBACKER's requirements regarding the projects?
A Project Creator can submit more than one project at any one time on FRINGEBACKER. We ask that a project should have a clear goal. For example, a project might be to publish a photographic essay, or it might be to put on a musical for an opera group. Or it might be to raise funds for a charitable cause. The list of examples can go on and on. But a Project Creator must exhibit clarity. You must be able to show everyone what your ideas are, what your background is, as well as what your relevant experience is. You must also carefully list your plans and describe your current work in progress, in as detailed a manner as you can.
We do not sell anything on FRINGEBACKER, because FRINGEBACKER is not a shopping site.
What kinds of projects are prohibited?
We cannot provide an exhaustive list of all the kinds of projects that we don't accept. But here are some examples, bearing in mind that this list is not comprehensive. At the end of the day, FRINGEBACKER retains absolute discretion to prohibit any project or any kind of project, without needing to give any reason for its decision. If you submit a project to FRINGEBACKER, you are deemed to have agreed to FRINGEBACKER's absolute discretion in this manner. So let's now give you some of the examples.
You may not use FRINGEBACKER for selling (or for advance payment to sell) products or services or for activities that: (i) violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation; (ii) relate to (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (d) items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime, (e) items that are considered obscene, (f) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (g) certain sexually oriented materials or services, or (h) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (i) certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law; (iii) relate to transactions that (a) show the personal information of third parties in violation of applicable law, (b) support pyramid or ponzi schemes, matrix programs, other "get rich quick" schemes or certain multi-level marketing programs, (c) are associated with purchases of real property, annuities or lottery contracts, lay-away systems, off-shore banking or transactions to finance or refinance debts funded by a credit card or similar kinds of financial instrument, (d) are by payment processors to collect payments on behalf of merchants, (e) are associated with the following money service business activities: the sale of traveller's cheques or money orders, currency exchanges or cheque cashing, or (f) provide certain credit repair or debt settlement services; (iv) involve the sales of products or services identified by government agencies to have a high likelihood of being fraudulent; (v) violate applicable laws or industry regulations regarding the sale of (a) tobacco products, or (b) prescription drugs and devices; (vi) involve gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, lottery tickets, other ventures that facilitate gambling, games of skill (whether or not it is legally defined as a lottery) and sweepstakes unless the operator has obtained prior approval from FRINGEBACKER and the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law. This list is, at the sake of being boringly repetitive, merely a list of some examples, and is not exhaustive -- FRINGEBACKER retains absolute discretion to prohibit any project or any kind of project, without needing to give any reason for its decision. If you submit a project to FRINGEBACKER, you are deemed to have agreed to FRINGEBACKER's absolute discretion in this manner.
